Description
Renal podocytes, also known as glomerular epithelial cells, are attached to the outer side of the glomerular basement membrane. Together with the glomerular basement membrane, they constitute the glomerular blood filtration barrier. Since podocytes in normal adult kidneys are terminally differentiated cells, primary cultured podocytes in vitro cannot proliferate.
Immortalized Human Renal Podocytes were transduced with lentivirus carrying the SV40 gene and puromycin resistance. Tests confirmed that the cells are free from bacterial and fungal contamination, exhibit excellent proliferation potential, and can be passaged 10?20 times in vitro.
