Description
Pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells (PMECs) lining the pulmonary vessels form a semi-selective barrier, which is critical for gas exchange and the regulation of fluid, macromolecules and cells between the blood and pulmonary interstitial compartments. PMECs also produce angiotensin-converting enzyme to activate angiotensin, a peptide hormone that induces vasoconstriction and elevates blood pressure. PMECs further play important roles in regulating the cellular properties of pulmonary mesenchymal cells and inflammatory events. These functions of PMECs are associated with the development of acute lung injury, pulmonary hypertension, edema, embolism and lung cancer.
Immortalized Human Pulmonary Microvascular Endothelial Cells were transduced with lentivirus carrying the SV40 gene and puromycin resistance. Tests confirmed that the cells are free from bacterial and fungal contamination, exhibit excellent proliferation potential, and can be passaged 10-20 times in vitro.
