Chondrocytes reside in articular cartilage and are responsible for secreting type II collagen, other collagen types and non?collagenous extracellular matrix macromolecules. The proliferation and differentiation of chondroblasts are closely related to the development of the vertebrate skeleton. Chondrocytes can secrete and respond to a series of growth factors, including IGF-1 and IL-1. Cultured chondrocytes in vitro serve as a useful model for studying cartilage repair and the pathology of arthritis.

Immortalized Mouse Chondrocytes were transduced with lentivirus carrying the SV40 gene and puromycin resistance. Tests confirmed that the cells are free from bacterial and fungal contamination, exhibit excellent proliferation potential, and can be passaged 10-20 times in vitro.
