Description
- Lec1 cells are a mutant selected for wheat germ agglutinin resistance from the proline-deficient CHO cell clone Pro-5.
- Lec1 lacks a glycosyltransferase called GlcNAc-TI, thereby blocking N-linked carbohydrate processing at the Man5GlcNAc2Asn intermediate.
- Lec1 cells are very useful for studying the effects of altered N-linked glycosylation on the function and compartmentalization of endogenous glycoproteins or glycoproteins produced by viral infection or transfection of cloned DNA.
